Hi I have a connection to Mark Dowson Cooper and his family ~ he was the younger brother of my 3xgreat-grandfather, Robert Cooper. Mark Dowson Cooper and Robert Cooper's parents were Jonathan Cooper and Jane Dowson. Mark got his name from Jane Dowson's father Mark Dowson (c1727-1805).
Jonathan Cooper (c1761-11 November 1849) married Jane Dowson (9 June 1761-?)
married: 4 April 1782 Danby In Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England
Children:
Jonathan Cooper (12 September 1783-?)
Mary Cooper (22 March 1785-?) married Robert Elleker
Jane Cooper (26 May 1787-?) married Thomas Webster
Robert Cooper (5 January 1790-?) married Elizabeth Halton
Eleanor Cooper (15 July 1792-?) married John Leng
John Cooper (19 February 1795-?)
Thomas Cooper (4 April 1797-11 April 1885) married Hannah Leng
Mark Dowson Cooper (29 September 1799-11 December 1872) married Mary Wilson (1810-30 July 1875)
Hannah Cooper (6 April 1802-1885) married John Atkinson
Maria Cooper (30 September 1805-?) married Joseph Breckon
The first few children were born at Danby, but the rest were born at Rosedale and Lastingham. The elder Jonathan Cooper (c1761-1849) had a brother named John Cooper who married the younger sister of Jane Dowson, Mary Dowson (1764-?) and the names Jonathan and John were used for several sons in each generation. The Dowson family is from the Danby area and Mark Dowson (1727-1805) owned some land around Fryup I believe. He sold it just prior to his death in 1805.
I also have Mary Wilson as having been born in Scotland.
