Mary Wilson
« on: Wednesday 28 July 10 11:05 BST (UK) »
My research indicates that Mary Wilson married Mark Dowson COOPER in Westerdale in 1832.
However I have no other information for Mary so would appreciate if someone could add further threads.

This looks like her ....

1871

Helmsley RG10/4839 Folio 91 Page 4

Mark D Cooper Head M 71 Farmer of 90 acres Yorkshire Farndale East
Mary do Wife M 61 Scotland
Jonathan do Son U 32 Farndale East
Isaac do Son U 19 Farndale East
Dowson do Grandson 6 Farndale East
Eliza Green Serv U 25 General Servant Farndale ?

Oak House, Farndale East

On the 1851 census for this family the eldest child is shown as James C Wilson, aged 18, born at Farndale. They also had a son called Wilson Cooper born c1845.

Each census from 1851 onwards only shows her birthplace as Scotland. I think she died in 1875.

Brilliant posteria. I concur you have found the correct person as well as supplying previously unknown info. The census data you supplied correlates with regard to birthdates that I had for both Mark Dowson COOPER and one of his sons,Isaac  -my gggrandfather.
My sincere appreciation posteria from New Zealand where Isaac ultimately emigrated to

Hi I have a connection to Mark Dowson Cooper and his family ~ he was the younger brother of my 3xgreat-grandfather, Robert Cooper. Mark Dowson Cooper and Robert Cooper's parents were Jonathan Cooper and Jane Dowson. Mark got his name from Jane Dowson's father Mark Dowson (c1727-1805).

Jonathan Cooper (c1761-11 November 1849) married Jane Dowson (9 June 1761-?)
married: 4 April 1782 Danby In Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England

Children:
Jonathan Cooper (12 September 1783-?)
Mary Cooper (22 March 1785-?) married Robert Elleker
Jane Cooper (26 May 1787-?) married Thomas Webster
Robert Cooper (5 January 1790-?) married Elizabeth Halton
Eleanor Cooper (15 July 1792-?) married John Leng
John Cooper (19 February 1795-?)
Thomas Cooper (4 April 1797-11 April 1885) married Hannah Leng
Mark Dowson Cooper (29 September 1799-11 December 1872) married Mary Wilson (1810-30 July 1875)
Hannah Cooper (6 April 1802-1885) married John Atkinson
Maria Cooper (30 September 1805-?) married Joseph Breckon

The first few children were born at Danby, but the rest were born at Rosedale and Lastingham. The elder Jonathan Cooper (c1761-1849) had a brother named John Cooper who married the younger sister of Jane Dowson, Mary Dowson (1764-?) and the names Jonathan and John were used for several sons in each generation. The Dowson family is from the Danby area and Mark Dowson (1727-1805) owned some land around Fryup I believe. He sold it just prior to his death in 1805.

I also have Mary Wilson as having been born in Scotland.
Most of my family that I am researching is in England, Scotland and Ireland. I also am tracking down wayward branches all throughout Canada and the United States.
Bradshaw (in Scotland)
Smith/Smyth (North Yorkshire)
Hay (Aberdeenshire - Cruden Bay)
Goring (Surrey)
Trim (Devon)
Webster (Wexford Ireland)
and too many others to mention!

What a wonderful surprise to return from my Xmas/New Year holiday and find your message GenTips.I am blown away by all the info you have supplied especially covering a period so long ago.To encompass one large family and their christening and/or death dates in one go together with other family relationships is something highly unlikelythat I could ever have acheived from here.
Whow -what a start to my year!
Sincere thanks
Milt
