William Henry Jones Dunany
« Reply #27 on: Monday 22 April 19 22:21 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Tracking my ancestors back, I have a William Henry Jones, born on 14th December 1798, in or near the town of Castle Bellingham in Dunany, Louth. At 18 he enlisted in the 48th Foot, The Northamptonshire regiment, in 1816  in Naas. William served in Australia and India, before finally settling in Wellington NZ, as barrack sergeant in his later years. I have his family tracked to the present but would like to know more about his father, also named William Henry Jones (a name that has currently been carried on for four generations in NZ). There's some suggestion he may also have been a retired soldier from the  Northhamptonshire regiment who were 'recuperating' in Nass after a mauling they received in the American War of Independence. But seeing the posts from Dunany Jones, he may also have been a local. Any information would be appreciated.
Ps, he is also an ancestor of one of the very first All Blacks :D
Thanks
Brian

You will get the hang of it quickly enough, Brian  ;)

I have sent a message to one of the moderators to ask them to do this for you.

Hello Folks, The above William Henry Jones b. 1798 in Dunany is my 3rd great-grandfather and Brian (robcloud) is my 3rd cousin. Brian's last post was 2019 and I have just had an email to him returned undelivered, so, contact is lost for now. I thought I would pop in here to see if anything new has turned up that may link my 3rd great-grandfather to the Jones of the Hermitage or other Jones of Dunany. To that end I have done my DNA with Ancestry.com and this data has been uploaded to MyHeritage.com also. If anyone has also done their DNA and there is a chance, we may be connected it would make finding each other on those sites easier if we knew each other's details.
Cheers Folks

Hello!
I'm new here and from Aotearoa/New Zealand.
I have a different mystery Jones from Dunany. Is it okay to ask questions here or will I need to start a new thread/conversation?

Better to start a new thread, be sure not to mention names of living or possibly living people and give as much information as you can.

Thanks. Where do I start a new topic? Sorry to appear dense. Jill.
