Mary Jane Stone
« on: Tuesday 27 July 10 17:05 BST (UK) »
Trying to track down my husband's great grandmother Mary Jane Stone born abt 1862.

She married Richard Wright on 21st May 1888. Address is listed as Zennor Road, Streatham and father as George Stone, Miller. Witnesses Charles & Ellen Wright.
She appears in 1891 & 1901 censuses still in Zennor Road and listed as born Ireland (Dublin in one) but I can find no trace of her before her marriage (there is a Mary J Stone down in Devon born in ireland but she appears there after my Mary's marriage).

Any help tracking her down would be very much appreciated as I am very very stuck- even if it is just suggestions of how I might find out if she came over from ireland after 1881 and before 1888. I have also posted on the Surrey/ Streatham board to see if anyone there can help.

Unfortunately Mary was born just before the start of full Civil registration (1864) so you will need to research parish records to find details on her birth/baptism.

Do you have any idea what religion her family were and what part of Dublin she came from - i.e. city or county ?

Many parish records for Dublin city are available on : www.irishgenealogy.ie

Hi Shane

Unfortunately I know nothing about her. her siblings seem to appear to be visiting/ staying with her in the later censuses as JOhn & Kate Stone are  with her in 1891 and George in 1901. Other than that I know nothing!

Were either of her siblings born after 1864- if so there might be a chance of finding their birth certificates.

Ah very cunning, I hadn't even thought of that!
Yes George appears in 1901 born abt 1868 in Ireland 1891 census has John Stone born Dublin abt 1865 and Kate Stone born abt 1869

based on the extracted details for Katerine that aghadowey posted, this are the civil references needed to order a cert (the page reference is the same).

 Name: Katherine Stone
 Registration District: Dublin South
 Event Type: Birth
 Year: 1868
 volume: 2 / page : 767

Father's occupation may help confirm if this is the correct family. I am not sure about the 1860s, but certainly there were a few large mills in the area in later years where George may have worked.

That's great thanks, I found that family earlier on the old family search (not the flashy new one!) website and wondered if that might be the one.

This is my first real dealing with Irish ancestry- where do I order certificates from? and was there any form of census that I could track down the family in or is ordering a cert and seeing if the occupations tie up the only way?

Thanks again

Nico
