bt19,

Living in East Ditchburn on the 1861 Census was family of William and Mary and chlidren Margaret born circa 1851, Mary 1855, Anfrew 1858 and John 1860.

Mary's death was registered in the Sept Quarter of 1868, within the Alnwick Registration District.

Whoever informed the Registrar of her death said she was 37 at death.

William's death was registered at same Reg Dist, in the March Qtr of 1898. Age at death was recorded as 72.

To find the cause of death you need to buy a copy certificate of the death registration. From local Register Office ( at Alnwick, but called Northumberland North second Reg District - tel 01665 602870 )

Hi Micheal
Yes I think this is the right family, in 1881 they are in the Ogle arms at Eglingham, there are 2 sets of twins and no sign of Mary anymore, I was just wondering if she died in childbirth because the youngest set of twins are born in 1868 too.  Thanks for the help,
Regards

 Belinda,

 On 1881 census Taylor branches are in Eglingham village ( page ref 5124-62-3, at "household schedules" 14-Richard, 15-William, 16-Andrew)

John Brown is innkeeper at the Ogle Arms ( on previous page ie 2 ) I don't think any of the Taylors are actually living in the inn.  The census enumerator was a bit slipshod filling in address column.

Is the Mary you refer to, Mary Taylor born c1855, dtr of William/Mary ?
I don't understand your reference to " 2 sets of twins" > I am guessing that Mary junior got married and had 2 sets of twins ??.

I'm not very good at this yet but I'm sure I will get there in the end
1881 Ogle Arms Eglingham  William 54 John21 Robert 18 Anne 18 and ralf 15 matthew 15
This is the family William B 1826 married Mary B 1830, I think she died the same yr  the twins were born and wondered if the grave at the church in Eglingham was hers I will ring and order the birth certificate

 Belinda,

 Hang fire for the moment on buying a birth cert !

 On the 1861 census, in East Ditchburn (page ref 3880-80-3) Mary, william's wife is aged 31 (born Alnwick). On 1851 census (ref 2419-652-1) she was 20.
On 1871 census (5175-74-1) William is recorded as a widower.

The births of Ralph and Matthew were registered with Alnwick Reg District in the June Qtr of 1866.

In the same registration district there are death registrations for several Mary Taylors. The best candidates for your Mary Taylor ...

 Sept Qtr ( so registered from 1st July to 30 Sep)1868, aged 37
 June Qtr (registered 1st April-30th June ) 1869 aged 38

 The best bet is the first one.

~~~~~~~~------
Now that I have tuned into the "twins" situation, I think the couple had at least 3 sets of twins, including William and Margaret, registered March Qtr 1851.
You can see them, and a 3 yr old dtr Mary who died in infancy on 1851 census (ref 2419-652-1)
Ogle Arms.  What records do you have that show that the family ever lived in the Ogle Arms ?
 Belinda,
 I think you have seen them as in the Ogle Arms on the 1881 on the FamilySearch web site.
But looking at the original census page I dont think the Taylors lived in the pub- probably next door. Enumerator made it unclear.
Maybe I am wrong. Perhaps other Chatters might offer an opinion for page
 1881 - page 5124-62-3 !
Does the info from Eglingham churchyard and censuses match up to your satisfaction ?
