Thomas Perkins Buried Leek Wootton 1794
« on: Monday 26 July 10 12:01 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find some more information about a miller at the Saxon Mill, Guys Cliff 1782.
So far, from the Parish Records, I know he was buried at Leek Wootton 25th Jan 1794. His parents are noted as James and Catherine Perkins. There is no age recorded
The Baptism records for Leek Wootton show he had several children with Martha:
Martha, Aug 1757
Joseph, Sept 1759
John, Mar 1762
Thomas, Mar 1764
Mary, Dec 1766
James, Nov 1770

From a will record, There was a Samuel and William who were also his children.

I have not been able to find any marriage for Thomas and Martha or baptisms for Samuel or William.

Would anyone have any further information about Thomas or how I would go about tracing where he came from?

Hi Mike,
I  yesterday,  just by chance  come across this site and found your message about Thomas Perkins from the Saxon Mill,  I was visiting the Mill on Wednesday with some people over from  Australia.
Thomas  Perkins born 1764 is my Ancestor, he was the Miller at Towcester, Northant's.
The two sisters from Australia are descendants of James born 1770.  We had never met before only been in touch by email.
I also noticed a chat about Joseph Perkins who married  Elizabeth Pannell, a descendant of them lives quite close to me, but we have not met as yet.
I understood that Thomas ( death 1784 / 94 ) was from Coventry. did not have parents for him.
regards    wintercm

I t would be more usual for a man to have his widow's name noted and unusaly for a married man to have his mother and fathers nems on his burial entry. Have I read this correct> Is it possible that the burial is not your ancesotr but a child and his parnets have been noted in the entry at the side?

Hi Wintercm
It is fascinating to find all these relatives around.
I am a descendant of Joseph Perkins and Elizabeth Pannell. Joseph was the son of Thomas b.1764 (also your ancestor). I will have to investigate the Coventry link. It would be interesting to know how far down the Perkins line you go from there. My father says that there is a supposed to be plaque in Coventry Cathedral - something to do with a donation by one of the Perkins family.
I have a picture of the grave of James Perkins b.1770 and others at Leek Wooton. Not sure if you have contact details for the Australian sisters or if the would be interested in a copy.

I think Samuel was the oldest child and he was the miller at Blackdown Mill. The birth date would fit. Thanks for the lead.

The record showing 'Jan 25th 1794 Thomas son of James & Catherine Perkins' is in the burials section of the Leek Wooton parish record. It is possible, I suppose that the record has been put in the wrong part.
Spooky that the curate who entered it was a Thomas Clarke (my sons name)!

Hi,
I'm interested in Guy's Cliffe and came across this reference to Samuel in 1792. Does it help you?

http://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=NwoIAAAAQAAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PA1&dq=greatheed+guy%27s+cliff&ots=QrTju0D3dZ&sig=GAutCjGMsxr7YEJXE-p5SceBT98#v=onepage&q=Guy%27s-Cliff&f=false

I'm a volunteer for Guy's Cliffe Walled Garden project, so if you find any info on that, it would be great, thanks.
