If anyone can help with information please do so by PM (personal message) rather than post recent family details online. Thank you.

Hello,

Family rumour has it that my Clarkes were somehow related to Austin Clarke. My ancestor Alderman John Clarke owned 2 dairies in Dublin and had been deputy Lord Mayor for a while. He died in the 1950s. Does this ring any bells with you?

Sorry for the delay, my Google account was hijacked and I lost all my contacts and links. I am only slowly reestablishing contact. I have no way of confirming the Clarke connection. If I find anything I will be happy to share

I just saw your post, my husband (* Stanley) is related to Austin Clarke and just found out that Austin's son, Dardis has died and the service is at 3.30pm this Monday 4th in Mount Jerome in Dublin.  The funeral director's are Masseys, so they might be able to help you with contacts.  Good luck!

This is a link to NLI’s listing of Austin Clarke Papers, I am not sure if there are many references to family that would help you.

FYI, if not already known

There are baptism records on www.irishgenealogy.ie for Augustine CLARKE Snr’s sister Esther
and Ellen BROWN-CLARKE’s siblings Catherine, Maurice, Mary, and Andrew at least
which could help tie back your families.

In relation to Clarke's first wife, Cornelia (Lia) Cummins, here are some other threads that suggest her father was Edward Cummins rather than Nicholas Comyn. She seems to have been an interesting person.

Thank you for that correction Sonas
Lia Cummins-Clarke's life reads like a book and would really make you wonder!

modified to include:
Subject to verification
there is a marriage between Edward CUMMINS and Winifred BLAKE in Thomastown 1888
it is shown with two references Jan-Mar 4/493 and Apr-Jun 4/367

They had a second daughter in October 1891 named Dorothy Mary Angela CUMMINS
There is a death for Winifred Mary CUMMINS in 1891 in Drogheda District Oct-Dec 2/333 aged 29
which could well imply that she died in childbirth when Cornelia was just 3 years old.

There is also a marriage between Ignatius JENNINGS and Henrietta BLAKE in Thomastown 1884
it is shown as Apr-Jun 4/377

Henrietta b1855 d1940 and Winifred b1859 d?1892
(as were James Andrew b1846 m Mary Jane WALSH d ~1901,
Cornelia b1847 m1874 John PINCHIN d1892, Edmond b1851 d1898, & Isodore b1854 d1856)
were the children of
James BLAKE of Ballinamona, Co. Kilkenny b.c1813 d Sep 11 1873; and
Cornelia RONAYNE b.c.1822 d.1897; who married in Cork in 1845

There are references to Cornelia CUMMINS living with a relative in Waterford named Jennings
which may well be her aunt; she is in school in Waterford on the 1901 census and
this Jennings family are in Waterford;
by the 1911 census they are in Dublin.

The head of the family Ignatius was born in Galway and spent his latter years researching Co. Waterford families in the Records Office in Dublin.
