These cards were sent by many 1000's of the armed forces in WW1 to loved ones and sweethearts at home.
There were many produced but a lot have been lost I have the ones sent by my great uncles in France to my Grandmother.
They also made bbokmarks. These items were made by groups of women initially by hand and then by machines. they were done on silk mesh in groups of about 12 on the one piece of silk and then cut up and inserted into the cards etc.,
They were first made for the 1890 Paris Exhibition and grew in favour, but after the 1920's were not made.
