Thank you. I went on the Ryerson Index and found the Notice. If you apply to the SHJ do they give you the complete obit?
FYI  my mother is 90, and yesterday I was able to tell her she has a half-brother !!!   :) :) :)

Hi Valgenie,

Was Charles in Australia during WWI?  Wife, Beatrice Victoria?  There is a service record for man of this name who enlisted in Sydney and went AWOL as soon as he arrived in the UK.  He was born in London in 1885.

http://naa12.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx

Put the full name in the search box, and when the results come up you will see on the right of the screen that you can click on "digitised item".

I'm a bit puzzled
Quote
My grandfather Charles Howard Johnson b. 1886,  emigrated to Aus. in 1944, I did not know where he went until today.
Valgenie
and you have his death certificate.

There appear to be two Charles Howard JOHNSON's on the NSW indexes with parents having identical given names.  However his death certificate should have identifying information eg place of birth.  Did he marry?

Hello Cando,Sparrett, Dundee and all you other kind & helpful people:

I have the birth cert. Born Poplar, London in 1886
He is on the 1891 census as mentioned, with family
In 1901 he is on a training ship at Devonport, in Devon UK
Yes, he was in the Australian Imp Force in 1917. Yes he did go AWOL, then he joined the British Navy (have source documents and medals)
Yes, his wife was Beatrice Victoria.
Yes, he made many voyages around the world as a seaman (have seaman's cards etc.)
I had traced him as far as NZ in 1936
Just found him on the electoral roll (on July 8th 2010)
Got the death cert. It arrived yesterday. It must be him!!
After 28 years of searching, thank goodness for the Internet and all of you!!!
Burning Question........where is his son?

Hi Val,
Your last posting shows you had a lot of information about the man.

Just giving you a useful tip for next time.

Always give all the information you have right at the outset.

That way helpers are not wasting time researching what you already know.

As to the Burning Question, if you go back through the thread , I have suggested you acquire a copy of his death notice REPLY #6
