Smith and Tite Families Paulerspury
« on: Thursday 22 July 10 11:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me with this family i have got myself into a right muddle and thought if i posted my problem someone maybe able to help me.

John Smith C1834 married Elizabeth Tite C1837

I have Elizabeth Tite's parents as John Tite and Mary.

Can find Elizabeth on the 1841, 1861 and 1871 census's as being 4, 23 and 33 all being born in Paulerspury.  The only Elizabeth Tite i can find on the 1851 census is living with a stepdad, mother and their children but birth in Northampton.

I thought Elizabeth's mum was Mary Ann Jackson but i now think this is wrong as this person has more children named Tite.

Does anyone think they can sort my mess out.

Thanks

The 1851 census entry you refer to is correct.  Elizabeth TITE is recorded as "Wife's Daughter".  Therefore, her mother must have remarried to William HOLLOWELL (and went on to have several more children with him, also included on the same census).

From FreeBMD:

Mar Qtr 1846 Northampton
William HOLLOWELL / Mary Ann TITE

As far as Elizabeth's place of birth is concerned, I think that William probably just got a bit carried away with his "ditto's"!

Hi Pennie

Thank you for confirming that for me.  What I'm trying to do now is to get the right children to the right parents as it looks like theres two John Tite's that marry Mary's that have children in the same period of time I'm looking at.

John TITE and Mary Ann JACKSON were married in Paulerspury in 1834.
John TIGHT and Mary SMART were married at Bozeat in 1835.

Interestingly, John and Mary's son, John (born c1839), who appears with his parents and elder sister Elizabeth on the 1841 census, seems to be still with his father on the 1851 census.  John seems to have a new wife (from Wavendon, Bedfordshire) and four further children.

Hi Sandy and Pennie

I knew this family were going to cause me trouble when i started researching it.

I have Elizabeth Tite B1837, John Tite B1839, Arabella Tite B1842, Reuben Tite B1844, and Hannah Tite B1846 all children have the parent John Tite and Mary.  According to the 1851 Census Elizabeth is living with her stepdad so i think there must be two different families just can't work out which children belong together.

Hi again.

The problem seems to be that none of the other children
seem to marry till much later, at least possibly John and Hannah,
I could be wrong.

I can see Arabella dies in 1857.

I can not see any other burials for a Mary in the Potterspury
Reg District.

If and only if Elizabeth is the step-daughter of William Hollowell
and the child of John and Mary Ann (Jackson) Tite it maybe a
case of having to buy a certificate, unless you or anyone else
can think of anything else.
