Can anyone help trace my family or at least the origin of this awkard surnam.
I was led to believe it originated in Scotland but am not sure.
I was led to believe my ancestors moved to Liverpool, where I was born, from Scotland.
There is a tenuous link on another posting to a Sullivan family who moved to Liverpool from Scotland in the mid 1800's.
I would appreciate any help as I am getting nowhere.
thanks.

Hi

Because there are no specific details given - I can only reply in general terms

You need to start with what you know and work backwards from it.  That is the only way you will find any links to where they were born:

Start with your parents and work backwards to their parents etc

Ask any older relatives for any info they may have that could help you

If you need help with census info - post a request but make sure you give as much info as possible as those 2 surnames are very common.  We need full names and birthyears and birthplaces to help find a census entry

We can only help with census info up to 1901.  The 1911 is strictly pay per view and lookup requests are not allowed.  Here is the link to the free index

The 1881 census for England & Wales is free to search at
