Harrons/Arnold Ballintra
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 10:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

Help required.

I am trying to find out any information on:-

James Arnold, who was a saddler in Ballintra in 1931.  There son Robert Arnold and daughter Alice Eveline born after 1911.

Alexander Harron born 1903 believe Balylnakillew or Coxtown.  Parents Alexander and Rachel Harron of Coxtown (1911 census)  Married Elizabeth Ellen Arnold August 1931 in Drumhome bother declaring to be from Ballintra. Alexander is a gardener and his father a merchant.

Alexander and Elizabeth came to England in the 1930's and had a daughter Frances Susan who unfortunately died in England. Not sure if Alexander and Eliazbeth returned to Ireland

Desperate to trace the off spring of these people as I believe them to be direct cousins and am unable to trace my own line.

Thank you

Civil registration index for Ireland goes up to 1958 so you might find some of your relatives listed in the index. In general, however, more recent details will probably not be found online.

My maternal Grandmother was Mary Jane Harron. She married David Clarke.
d.o.b. would be 1850's. Any information on the Harron's or Clarke's would be greatly appreciated.  I believe they were born in Ballintra - Drumholme.
Cheers Ruth

Hi Ruth

David Clarke married Married Mary Jane Harron 1888 Drumhome Parish Church (COI) Ballintra, David's father was Alexander Clarke, Mary's father was James Harron

Birth record from same church 1858 David Clarke, father Alexander Clarke, mother Margaret,

There were 2 Alexander Clarkes in the 1858 Griffth Valuation for the Parish of Drumhome

There was a Mary Harrow baptised in the same church in 1864, father James, mother Catherin, no suitable Harrons from time period, Harrow may be a mistranscription.

Regards

Joe

Thank you Joe for the information on David Clarke.
I do know that Mary Harron's parents were James & Catherine (nee McCrea)
So it would be a mistranscription. Harrow.
Do you know if David had any siblings? Is there any way I could find out when they went to Scotland to live?

Regards Ruth

Hi Ruth, some more possible information on the Harron line from same church,

James Harron = Catherine McCrea marriage 1862 Drumhome Parish Church James Harron's father was Robert Harron, Catherine McCrea's father was Joseph McCrea.

Think I see James Baptism same church 1836, father Robert Harron mother Elizabeth, also the marriage of this couple in 1818 same Church Robert Harron = Elizabeth(don't have surname)

Also a possible birth record for Catherine McCrea 1843 (same church) father Joseph McCrea, mother Catherine, this couple also seemed to have married at the same church in 1836!

The records for this Parish are among the most comprehensive and oldest in Donegal so with a little more investigation i'm sure this line might be taken back a another couple of generations, baptisms from 1719, marriages from 1691

Regards

Hi Joe and Ruth

Been watching your messages re the Harrons of Ballintra.  Wondered if either of you had come across a Alexander Harron b1872 in the Drumhome area. Alexander, father Thomas, married Rachel Freeborn in 1901 at Laghey church.

The family were faremrs but it would appear they moved around a bit.

Pat
