Hello Mo,
Thank you for the information you have kindly supplied. I am sure it will be a great help. My understanding is that if Matthew was buried then this is likely to be at the Weaste Cemetary. I have come across a site that lists burials there, it does not claim to be complete, but Matthew Boor is not mentioned.
The family seem to have had 2 periods living in Salford. In August 1878 they were living in Darlington, in August 1879 a son Alfred Boor was born at 24 Kingston Street Salford (he died 6 weeks later). By 1881 the family were in Liverpool, a daughter Daisy Jane was born there 24 January 1881. Other children were born Liverpool up to 1893, by 1895 the family were back in Salford, a son Ernest James Boor born 3 November 1895 at 86 West Worsley Salford. As previously mentioned Matthew Boor died in Salford 1897.
Matthew was German (according to 1881 & 1891 census) an we know nothing of him until he married Mary Ann Alice Parkinson in Darlington on 1 June 1873. We cannot find him on the 1871 census so perhaps arrived in England 1871-1873.
During the first 20 years of the 1900's his 4 sons all changed their surname to Bower or Bowers, perhaps an anglisised version of possibly an original German name - perhaps Bauer or similar. By 1914 my grandfather had changed his name again, to his mothers maiden name of Parkinson, hence the family name now.
Matthew is our brickwall. As you suggested I will post a message on Lancashire Board for a more general enquiry in the hope we can learn more about Matthew.
Thanks again for your help.
Colin
