1861, 1871 Look up please WILLIAMS
« on: Saturday 17 July 10 21:19 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find my g.g.grandfather, JOHN WILLIAMS, b.1851 in Poole. I believe his mother may have been EDITH but unsure of his father's name. In 1881 census he was in Lancashire and married to CAROLINE BURCHALL b.1855
Thanks

She was Caroline Birchall according to the entry on Lancs BMD and they married at St Ambrose in 1875.  John was 21 so birthyear c 1854.  1881 shows 1851 and and 1891 shows 1850

The marriage is on the IGI pilot website and Caroline's father was Roger but no father is shown for John.  It's shown as St Ambrose Cheshire on the Pilot site

No but I notice he was a mariner so could have been at sea in 1871

No John Williams with that profile in either 1861/71

The absence of a fathers name when he married suggests he was illegitimate.  If his mother married before 1861 - he could be shown under her married name instead of Williams

Thanks again. I am intrigued as to where he was in 1861 census as he would have been aged 7.
