That sounds like a good idea.  Although I live in Edinburgh, maybe my local or the National Library can order it for me.

It sounds like a very interesting book. I have my 3xgreat grandfather William Foster who died in 1883 in Whiston Workhouse so I'm also trying to find out about the place. Even general stuff is fascinating as the institution evolved to modern needs. Flower

If you go to Lancashire OPC site,click on Parishes.,click on Prescot.

You will find lots of burials of people with the address Whiston Union.

There are records for Prescot.,Whiston.,Burtonwood,and more dating from 1625 to 1900.

I am tracing my grandmothers' paternal line,Whitfield,and have got lots of info on this site.

Hi Elaine, Lancashire OPC is a great resource isn't it.  I had thought that my GGM was born in the workhouse but mis-interpreted the census.  She was born somewhere close by, in Turnpike Lane.
