MOODY(MOODIE)/MCAULLEY
« on: Friday 16 July 10 12:36 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the marriage of James Moody born 1823 in Ireland and Ann McAulley born 1818 in Co.Londonderry.   They had moved to Scotland by 1844.    Can anyone help?

I dont have much more information, but this is what I do have.

James Moodie and Ann McAulley had 3 children:
James born 1844 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire
Helen born 1847 in Cambusnethan
William born 1849 in Cambusnethan
1851 Census shows them living at 17 Furnace Row, Newmains, Cambusnethan.
James occupation is given as Furnaceman.
James may have died in Glasgow in 1868 - this I am not sure about.
Ann  McAulley died 17th November 1891 in 17 Furnace Row, Newmains
Ann's parents were Alexander and Ann McAulley

I know nothing more of James Moodie (born 1844)
William Moodie (born 1849) had a son William John Moodie born 1869
Helen Moodie (born 1847) married a Samuel Murdoch in 1865 and they had a son William Murdoch born 1868.    The family lived in 17 Furnace Row, Newmains.   Samuel died before 1878.
Helen then married Hugh Campbell (born 1835 in Port Glasgow) in 1878 in Wishaw, Lanarkshire.  They had 3 children:  Ann 1878, Hugh 1881, Helen 1885.   The family still lived at 17 Furnace Row in Newmains.   Hugh Campbell (1835) died there in 1899.

I did not think I had that much information!!!   I hope this helps.

I have checked through my notes but haven't come up with anything. Unfortunately the name James is very common in the Moody lines and I would really need more information about James Moody (Moodie). I note that your line has 'Moody' spelt as 'Moodie'.

One of the Moody families I have been researching stems from a James Moody of Ballykelly who was a Protestant householder at Farlow, Tamlaghtfinlagan Parish in 1740. This Moody family has Farlow connections through the 1800s. There were also McCauleys in this area.  A William McCauley, Ballykelly was granted a freehold lease for 18 years from the 1st November 1825. There are a number of McCauley marriages in Ballykelly Presbyterian Church in the early 1800s.

There is, however, nothing to show that these McCauley and Moody families were linked and that this is the family you are looking for. Wish I could be of more help!

I have seen the surname spelt both ways - which does make it confusing.    Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.

Hi ,
I think I may have found a link between your family and Co Londonderry.

I have been tracing a Sara Moodie (aged 2) who showed up in 1901 Census as living at Main Street, Limavady, Co Derry. She was the granddaughter of a Thomas Wilson and was born in Scotland on Feb 8th 1899.  Her parents were William Moodie, copper work labourer and Mary Wilson. They were married at Govan in 1898. Mary’s parents were married in Limavady but the Moodies appeared to be from Scotland.

I have managed to trace William Moodie and think I have ended up with your family!!!! I will send a PM when I have made sure I haven’t made a mistake.
