« on: Friday 16 July 10 10:46 BST (UK) »
Hello im looking for information on martha hetherington born around 1833 and oliver stringer 1834 marthas father was john a farmer from tyrone and i think olivers father was james a butcher who was possibaly from antrim, not sure on that. They married in errigle trough in 1855. Would love to hear any information at all or suggestions on what to look up. I also found out olivers occupation was a steward, what would that entail??

Hi,
I noticed that the marriage was in Co. Monaghan by looking for it on thr Record Search Pilot site of www.familysearch.org
I also looked up Oliver Stringer in Griffiths Valuation and found one in the townland of Richmond, parish of Errigal Keerogue. Co. Tyrone where he rented a 4 acre farm.
A steward may indicate a land steward, ie someone who managed property for a landlord.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

He was a land stewart, lived in townland of Killabrick, as did Martha. Married in E.Truagh 28th Sept 1855. A land stewart would have been responsible for day to day running of farm, keeping eye on tenants, maybe collect rent...

Don't know why they married in ET as Donaghmoyne would be their parish (for Killabrick) as far as I know. Errigal Shanco was just down the road, eventually closed and combined with ET but Hetherington wasn't a very common name there either.

oh my god that is such a beautiful church!!! thank you so much for the picture its lovely :) thanks also for your other information, looked up killbrick and donaghmoyne on the map its deep into monaghan,i thought it would have been on the border, very interesting to know that is where they lived. do you know where exactly errigal turagh is on a map? what would be the nearest town to it? cant seem to find an exact location on any maps ive looked at and why is errigal the name of so many areas? getting very confused between errigal truagh, errigal keerogue and now errigal shanco.would love to go visit the area at some stage so want to know where im going up there

http://www.truagh.ie/C-of-I-Parish-Information is worth looking at. Photos of inside the church too.

To find it on a map.. It is between Emyvale and Aughnacloy. If you are travelling from Emyvale towards Aughnacloy it is on the LHS, on a map there is a road going off at 45 degrees which then turns back to main road to form at triange...it is very near to this bend. It's the best way I can describe it.
