Don't go on looking for Rosa! I should have said - I know about Rosa, it is Thomas who I am having trouble finding

It is a magnificent 3 generation all female household, though.
All I have been able to find of Thomas is something in the Australian archives that there was a letter waiting for him in Australia and then later he was involved in a Chancery case in England. And in 1877 they divorced (there is Rosa's petition for protection of earnings and property in the National Archives), and Rosa remarried. I wonder if there is a record of the divorce proceedings somewhere - perhaps that would tell me something about Thomas.
I just found the Charlotte Handy and Thomas Peter Hart marriage in Pallots - it says Devizes which makes sense (not sure where Hampshire came from)

You have done great already - the marriage and innkeeper information - I really appreciate it. Anything you want in Cambridgeshire?

records for divorces are not complete however i wonder whether this one in the National archives is relevent

Divorce Court File: 5152. Appellant: Thomas James Gibson. Respondent: Elizabeth Ann Gibson. Co-respondent: [...] Hart. Type: Husband's petition for divorce [hd].
Covering dates 1877

as Thomas wasn't living with Rosa its more likely he was having an affair? Roas would then have to protect her earnings. have you seen the NA file for this? i have ordered stuff from the NA before and it could tell you all you need.
