Wrote to the church with donation twice and have never heard from them. paid to have death search but must have wrong date :( What I would like help with is my grandfathers brother David Leathem he was born in Dec 1887. He married Mary Elizabeth Hardy. His daughter thought he died when he was 65 (1952 ). My aunt thinks it was after her father in 1969 and my uncle thinks it could even have been 3 years later Help please :) Many thanks wendy aussie land.

Welcome to Rootschat. Have you checked for the death in civil index (online, free, goes up to 1958) to try and narrow down the date?
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1408347
I did a quick check and can't see his death listed- also searched by date and can't see a matching birth in Co. Louth but there is a David Leathem birth registered in Jan./Mar.1888 Lisburn district (Co.Antrim).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I will be spending two days in Carlingford visiting the RC Church and cemetery (and other catholic churches and cemeteries in the Omeath area) in late August of this year.  I hired a reasearcher in Belfast who found quite a bit of family information for me in the catholic church records at the PRONI library. I may be able to help some, but our time there is limited - we have lots of research to do!  I found maps in the Griffiths Valuation of where my ancestors lived which we are also going to check out.

hello Texasnomad, I would be very grateful if you do have the time to do this for me please. I do realize time is very short. I was in Ireland my self 3 years ago, staying in Lisburn, but their was so much research to do, I did not get to Carlingford. I completely understand if you don't get time, but just in case. I am looking for David Leathem his daughter said he died around 1952, my auntie thought it was more like 1969, if you get a chance to look round the graveyard  that will be great. Hopefully his wife would have been buried with him Mary Elizabeth. I hope you have a wonderful stay in Ireland and your research goes well. :) Best wishes Wendy

Wendy,

Glad to help.  This is my first (but probably not last) trip to Ireland.  Can't wait to see where my family came from and get more information.  I may be early September before I can email you back, depending on internet availability in the BB's we are staying in.

I checked on Ancestry and found a John Henry Leathem (b. 1869, wife Maude) who left Lisburn for the US in 1922, but no one else who fits your description.  Will let you know.

Dennis

Glad to help - I received an email today that a man who specializes in family history on the area where my ancestors lived is going to contact me soon to help me - his grandmother was a Caufield!!  This is one of those golden nuggets that anyone researching family history is excited to get - I hope I can do the same for you!

How exciting for you Dennis great  :) I had a bit of luck today my auntie told me she thinks Davids grandson runs a pub in Armagh she thinks Thomas st. His name is something Rafferty, So tomorrow hopefully I will see if I can find the name of the pub in Armagh and then maybe write a letter. I did think about trying to phone, but not sure if that would be good in a pub :-[ Good luck Wendy.
