I enjoyed the programme and think a lot more of Brucie now - he seemed really genuine.  The end was really moving.

It makes you wonder how much trust we place in the primary source evidence. Bruce's family were side-tracked by conflicting evidence.
I'm starting to wonder about all those censuses which have "widow" on them Can I trust what they say?  :o

A great start to the new series, but what a sad ending.

As mentioned, we all know what it is like to find an unmarked grave.

My ancestor sailed for America in August 1886 8 months after his wife died with his youngest daughter. All his other ones were grown up and married. He went to Pennsylvania and is on the 1900 census there. He died about the same time as Brucie's ancestor.

When Brucie went to visit JF's grave in Brooklyn makes me so want to visit my ancestors grave in Pennsylvania.

Perhaps they could do a "revisited" on Bruce's family and go back a few more generations.  ;)

I agree with all the above, that was the best I've seen in a long time.  Really enjoyed the in depth programme into one life, showing all the aspects of researching one person instead of rushing through generations.

Very sad and touching end and I thought Bruce came across as a really genuine and friendly man.  Hope the rest of the series is as good!

Absolutely gripping from beginning to end.

Thanks to the BBC and Brucie for a great  episode of WDYTYA.

Here's hoping the remaining programmes are just as good. Hard act to follow though. ;)

Mmmmmm.......looks like Find-a-Grave would have been helpful to the researchers:

and wiki....

Wonder how much the family really didn't know?
