can anybody tell me if any demolitions, or alterations occurred in that area in 1871-1891? I am trying to find my ancestor EMMA ANN PHILLIPS b 1821 who lived at 16 Grove Place , Tottenham, until at least 1871. I cannot find a listing for her in the 1881 census at present and a check on the address revealed that the 1881 census only has records up to number 4 Grove Place and as that census is supposedly complete therefore something happened to Grove Place itself?

many thanks

Hi

Emma seems to have moved to Stoke Newington by 1881: RG11/281/52/22.

She was still there in 1891: RG12/179/124/56.

Emma comes up easily enough for 1891.

For 1881 I found her by looking for her neighbour Phoebe BELCHER (also a neighbour in 1891). Looking for unusually-named neighbours can be a good way of finding people if there has been an error in the transcription or indexing process.  In this case Emma does indeed appear on the same page as Phoebe, but in 1881 Emma's age has been wrongly indexed as 0 rather than 60.
