Have been playing catchup, having recorded the programmes each morning.  Last one I watched featured the girl at Finders saying she would have to order about' 50 certificates at the weekend'.  She also showed at the end the file containing two enormous piles of 'wrong' certificates that had been ordered.

Knowing how much each certificate normally costs, I wonder if perhaps they have a special arrangement, othterwise it would scarcely be cost effective.  Or have I missed something?

I wonder if they catalogue and file the wrong certificate just incase they come in useful in the future? They now always seem to be waiting for certificates to arrive, whereas in earlier series they used to show people going to the register office to collect them.

The new series started on Monday 23rd feb Lizzie,so I fear you've missed more than 2 weeks progs  :(

When I watched yesterday's prog (recorded and watched during the evening) it was 18/20!  I will just have to hope that they are shown again on BBC2, as they used to be.

I remember that programme, I too took a gulp at how many certificates - and wrong ones at that which they had ordered.

However to answer your question no they do not have a special arrangement with the GRO they have to pay the full price. If you do a search you will see this has been confirmed in the past by other heir hunting firms
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

It doesn't seem a very sensible way of doing business, although having said that I have quite a few "wrong" certificates.

Well, they came up against a brick wall today!  Glad I am not the only one.

The history insets are fairly interesting but what does annoy me is the people who tell us that the deceased was tall, thin, smart etc... I fail to see that being of any relevance.  We could have just a 30 minute programme and stick to the chase? The actual research is, for me, what was attractive about the earlier programmes.  I am getting to the stage when I think I won't bother watching any more.

Nice to see David Pacifico again - was beginning to think he had retired.

Great to see David Pacifico again.

No reason why Heir Hunters should be an advertorial programme for Fraser and Fraser but I do miss the characters that featured so prominently in previous series. Downplayed drastically this time.

Perhaps Finders are more attuned to the 20/30 somethings that appeal to TV producers.

I agree that this series feels very different and the characters aren't quite there for me. It just feels like it's more commercial rather than genealogical ??  which is probably their attempt to appeal to a different audience. O well.

Quite enjoying this series. I usually record and then whizz through the bits in which I am not interested 8)

I do wish though that lucky heirs would pronounce GENEALOGISTS correctly ::)
Sorry to be picky.
