Trying to find WHITEFORD/WHITFORD marriage Littleham (Exmouth)
« on: Monday 12 July 10 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm hoping there is a kind person that can help me find the marriage of a James Whiteford/Whitford and his wife Mary.  James is my 5Xggrandfather.  He was born in St Stephen in Brannel Cornwall in 1773 and after serving in the Cornish Militia he arrived and settled in Littleham (Exmouth) in 1801.  He married Mary (from 1841 census), between 1801 and 1809 most probably in Littleham.

I have been able to trace the Whiteford/Whitford family back further but I am missing some significant information regarding James Whiteford, his wife and and son William Henry Whiteford.

I would really like to know who my 5xggrandmother is!!!!

James died in 1849. Mary died in 1850.   Their son William Henry Whiteford died at sea in 1851 so there is limited information available from census entries etc.

I have been unable to find a baptism/christening record for William Henry Whiteford - I suspect it may be in the Littleham Parish Registers.  He was born sometime after the marriage of his parents - probably in the first decade of the 1800's.

I would really appreciate any help with this as it has been a mystery for a number of years.
Many thanks
Lara in Oz :)

Hi Lara

Just joined RootsChat and came across your search for William Henry Whiteford, also an ancestor of mine. You had info about him that I didn't know, so thanks. Can you share any further info re James Whiteford?

I live near Plymouth, Devon, not a million miles from St Stephen in Cornwall so if there's any need to get to a parish register or two, let me know - slightly closer than Australia.

Best wishes

Richard

Hi Lara

I work in Exter where the Devon Records Office is based. I will book an appointment to look up the christening record for WHW, the marriage record for his parents and get a look at the settlement record for James.
