Can you help ? Looking for KNOX Family
« on: Thursday 31 March 05 09:52 BST (UK) »
Hello
My Great Grandmother was Agnes Knox born c1880 in Dublin, possibly 61 Camden Street. Her mother was Catherine.
My Greatgranfather was Henry Kite 1880 Ramsgate Kent. Parents Edward and Elizabeth. Henry died ww1 1916.
They were married in Dublin somewhere between 1900 and 1905.
Their address was 59 Iveah Buildings Dublin.
Myself and others have looked on Mormans, Ancestry, FBMD and 1851 cesus for Dublin without success.
I'm not sure where to look next.
Any advice would be greatly recieved.
Thank you
Terri

Hello,

You've search for agnes in Dublin in the birth indexes and you can't find her registered? Perhaps she wasn't born in Dublin? Perhaps her birth wasn't registered. She would most likely have been baptised. What religion was she? Find the nearest church to Camden St and check their records.

When did she leave Ireland?

Hello Terri,
Probably a long shot, but worth a try. Did  you have any Prescotts marrying into the Knox family?
My GGM Eliza Prescott named one of my great Uncles 'Sydney Knox Roberts'. She  was born in Dublin around 1840 (supposedly half Spanish). Father Edward. (bootmaker). Eliza married my GGF 1863 in Reading, Berks. Have been unable to trace any details of her life in Ireland.
Regards,
Bob.

Hi there ,No posts from you for a long time so I am not sure if you are still interested
but the most likely church for someone born in Camden street would be 'Whitefriar street church,
any certs for baptisms e.t.c  for someone from  Iveagh  buildings which is in Patrick street
could likely be found in Saint Nicholas of Myra church in Francis street which is nearby.
                                                                      Anne

My fathers aunt, was Agnes Knox. She was born in 1888, and her mother was Catherine Knox. She lived on Camden Street Dublin. I would be interested to know what became of her. Her father was a Christopher Knox, who along with all the males in said family were coopers.
Knox, a cooperage family in Dublin, in the 1800's. Pigeon, silk weavers, mid 1800's Dublin, Mackey Boiler Makers from Cork mid 1800's, moved to Dublin about 1865. Crosbie Family Smithfield Dublin. I have a detailed family tree on

Welcome to Rootschat but Terri hasn't been online since Feb.2008.
Since the original post in 2006 new Irish resources have come online, including 1901 + 1911 census and civil registration index.

Agnes Knox m.Apr./June 1907 Dublin South registration district volume 2 page 720 (Henry Kite Same details).

Here's Christopher Knox and family (including Agnes) in 1901 census-

Christopher Knox, wife and child in 1911 census-

Whitefriar St was/is a Carmelite Church - became a parish in 1970s only, so probably no use looking for baptisms there.

I would guess St Kevin's, Harrington St was the parish from 1865, and before that St Nicholas of Myra, Francis St (from which St Kevin's was constituted in 1865)

Said, Patrick Joseph Knox was an uncle of my father. Where did you get the details of his birth?

I believe that a Mary Knox (1830 - 23 June 1892), buried in Glasnevin grave Ki255 may have been his grandmother.  How could I get her maiden name?
