Harry Denby was my husbands grandfather . I have lots of info about him as I lodged there at one time. I know he had a sister called Ivy but that is the only sibling I know of and have not found any others but I am sure there was more. He came from a long line of seafaring men . His father and grandfather were master mariners .i can look up the tree on the computer for you tomorrow . I also think I may have some photos.

Hi, yes Mary was my Grandmother, I remember going to Ivy`s as a child, she was a lovely woman married to Bill.
They used to live at the back of the old baths, before that they lived down one of the streets which backed onto the railway lines opposite the new morrisons.

Found this info relating to the Douglas at Goole Library:

Info taken from:  Goole  A port in Green Fields by Joyce Mankowska by Sessions of York 1973

Page 30
1907 saw Rawcliffe, Saltmarshe & Douglas arriving to swell the fleet.

Page 49
The White-painted Douglas, with her sister the Rother, a veteran of the butter trade from Copenhagen, was sold to Stanhope Steamship Co and renamed Stancourt, the Rother went on trading as before.

Page 52
In the years immediately before the war, the Douglas had been sold and renamed no less than four times. As Nephelgeretis, Hermes, Suzy & Iona, she sailed the Greek seas until she was sunk as a war loss in 1940

For those who have copies of the newspaper article and the postcard of the Douglas, could you try and upload these onto this thread, I have tried several times and it just keeps saying "file too big" well me n IT just don't gel of how to reduce the file size.

Thanks, b.
