Harry Denby Harrison
« on: Sunday 11 July 10 20:27 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am looking for any info on the naval career of Harry Denby Harrison born 1899 in Goole. I remember him telling me he ran away and joined the navy after he lied about his age. I expect many did this. This must have been the 1st world war as he would have been eligible for the 2nd  He may not have given his birth place or his unusual middle name, and he certainly did not give his correct date of birth.any info gratefully accepted
Regards Squinth

Hi there, just a few lines about Harry Denby Harrison. GOOLE TIMES 14th June 1940: Signaller Harry Denby Harrison, of 73, Paper Mill Road, Rawcliffe Bridge, has served in the Navy for 25 years, holding the Long Service Medal. Grandson of the late Captain Denby, Signaller Harrison joined the Navy when fifteen and a half, and served at the Dardanelles during the last war. Placed on reserve he sailed in the Goole Steam Shipping vessel Douglas to Copenhagen and when recalled at the outbreak of war he had but ten months to complete his 25 years service. Plus there is a photograph of him in the Goole Times. Hope this is of help

Hi

There are his CR1 and CR2 documents (Merchant Navy Records) available on Find my Past. One of these provides a physical description the other a coded list of the merchant ships he served on.
