Abraham Pegler
« on: Sunday 11 July 10 08:04 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me find out more about Abraham Pegler?
He is named as the father of Henry Pegler on Henry's marriage to Hannah Batt in Bristol in 1869. The witnesses are Albert E. Bowden and Edward Gover (? a little unclear).
I have found an Abraham Pegler, born 1799, mother Mary Pegler, (no father named) and a marriage in 1852 (five years after Henry was born, perhaps a second marriage). I also found a death registration in 1872, giving his age at 82. However, I don't know if these records all relate to the same person, as I don't have access to any census records other than the freeBmd, and he doesn't appear there.

Cheers

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html has various children b. to Abraham Pegler and Emma, including a Henry christened in 1850 (not, I think, born then; he was christened along with a sister Sophia)

I think this is the couple who married in 1852 (she was nee Slocombe, and appears on the 1841 census under that name)

I can find these in censuses:
1861:
rg 9/1717 23/4 and 24/5
Abm Pegler, widow, 60
Alfd, son, 16, "turner"
Henry, son, 14
next page
Sophia, dau, 11
Matilda, dau, 9
(all b. "Bristol")

1841:
HO 107/378/2 4/2
Abraham Pegler, 40, turner
Frederick, 15
(next page)
Emma, 10
Clara Ann, 1
/
Emma Slocomb, 20, dress maker

Frederick and Emma in 1841 seem to be the children of Abraham with Elizabeth Riddle Thomas (Elizabeth Riddle Pegler d. 1833).
Emma Pegler nee Slocomb may be the Emma Pegler who died in 1858.

I think that Clara Ann onwards must have been Emma Slocomb(e)s kids but for whatever reason they didn't marry until 1852

The Henry christened in 1850 is my great grandfather. I have never been able to find a birth certificate. Henry died in 1910, when his age was mistakenly recorded at 51 when he must have been 61.
