OLIVE children - which are their's?
« on: Friday 09 July 10 11:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Hope I can get some ideas here.........

The short version of my question - is there any way to find out the parents of a child who was born or died, without buying the certificate?

The long version - George Olive married Jane Charlotte Brooks June 1/4 1860 in Kensington. I don't have the certificate.
1871 census lived at Star Lane, Fulham; 1881 census lived at Star Lane, Fulham; 1891 census, George is dead (died 1885) but Jane still lives Star Rd, Fulham.

On the census their children are listed as Emma born 1866 (GRO Dec 1/4 1865), William born 1871 (GRO Sept 1/4 1870), and Annie born 1880 (GRO Dec 1/4 1879).

With the big gaps between their births, I assumed there were babies who died. On freebmd I have found 4 who might fit the gaps who were born and died registered at Kensington,
Jane Charlotte born June 1/4 1861 - died Sept 1/4 1861
John William born Mar 1/4 1863 - died Sept 1/4 1866 (aged 2) ?? same one??
Eliza Maria born Dec 1/4 1867 - died Mar 1/4 1870 (aged 2)
George James born Dec 1/4 1872 - died Mar 1/4 1873;

one at Fulham, Maria born Dec 1/4 1877 - died Dec 1/4 1878
and one, Mary Ann,born Kensington Sept 1/4 1874 and died Mile End, Sept 1/4 1874

Given that the mother is Jane Charlotte, I really like the chances of the baby Jane Charlotte belonging, and maybe the baby George, I'm very doubtful about the one who died at Mile End.

I'd love to know the answer to the short version of the question and also, which would you go for given this information.

Many thanks,
Tracey,
Australia.

Thank you both for your quick replies.

Sharon, I'm very new to English research, is the baptism information you gave freely accessible or via subscription to a genealogy site? And were they the only 3 there? In my records I like to document sources so would be interested to know where it comes from.

Thanks again,
Tracey.

Sorry. Just read what I wrote, and I should have said 'thank you, thank you, thank you!!, finding this information has made my day! I'm very excited.'

Annie, the youngest, is my ancestor, and sadly, I know she died aged 23 after giving birth to 2 children, my grandmother and her brother. There were a few generations of heart trouble, which seems to have faded in the current genes thankfully.

Tracey.

It's also available at many local libraries, just ask if they have Ancestry Library Edition.

If your research keeps bring you back to London & Middlesex, try our London & Middlesex board and this guide
