Very Stuck! Please help
« on: Wednesday 30 March 05 22:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, I really need help please I have tried loads of sites and boards but keep coming up blank!
My Mother, Margaret Walker was born 1933 Wallsend Northumberland, her Mother was also Margaret Ruth Walker - father not stated on the birth certificate.
Mum was left with her grandmother and grandfather and her mother left the home - I need to know what happened to her, I cannot find a death certificate, if she got married jer name would have changed so that is proving very difficult.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated. I would imagine she would have been born around 1914 or so.
Thank you
Wendywoo

Hi Wendywoo,

I think you're going to have to scour the marriages for a Margaret Ruth Walker after 1933 on the 1837 pay for view site, or in the archives etc , no easy job. And the only way you're going to tell if it's her is  if you order all the marriage certs of all likely Margaret Ruth Walker's for the father's ( your mum's  granddad that brought your mum up ,and his occupation) name on the cert. Deaths could be anywhere. And like you say you don't know if she got married, and had a different name  or was single after 1933, so you do need to know if she got Married or not.

finding a birth for her the same You're just going to have to search around all possible dates from when you think, and all possible years she could have been born. You say your mum was brought up by her grandparents so you should have their names, and they should be on your mum's mum birth cert when you order the right one - could prove expensive if you need to order lots of children named  Margaret Ruth Walker birth certs. Maybe you'll be lucky and there is not many of them with a middle name Ruth)

I don't know if you'll have any trouble ordering all the certs from the GRO as the birth is less than 100 yrs old, and if married less than 75. You may be able to order them - don't know.

It could prove very expensive ordering all the certificates  if there are a lot of Margaret Ruth Walker's about. I don't envy your task in the least.

Sorry I can't think of an easier soloution

The very best of luck in your search, maybe someone else can think of an easier way, I do hope so :)

Hi,

Suggest you look for your great grandparents wills, She may have been left something in one of them , and it will either show that she did remarry or she may have just changed her name.  Just suggestions!

Good luck

Hi Wendywoo

You could also look to see if there were obituaries for your great grandparents listed in the local papers which may name their children and narrow down a search.

Hi Wendywoo,

Have looked at years 1934,1935 and 1936 on 1837 for marriage of Margaret Ruth Walker - the bad news is only the middle initial is shown, there are 2 Margaret R Walkers married in those 3 years one at Rochford and one at Peterborough. There are loads of just Margaret's and of course you won't know whether she gave her middle initial or not, also you won't know where she moved to so that makes it even harder - don't think you will be able to trace her this way.
Sorry can't be more helpful -good luck though

Hi Wendy - I see you have your Margaret on GenesReunited  :D

Have you put messages on their Trying to find boards? I suggest that you check the Board every couple of months and if your message has slipped down the list put it on again -I see there are currently 13 pages of Walkers, people don't always wade through every page and every message  :(
Good luck with your search
