 :) I am researching Devereux and I am wondering if anyone can help with my Thomas Devereux born Camrose abt 1786 parents names not known and I have had difficulty finding any record of him at all, particularly I have not identified the names of his wife(s) - I think he married twice.

His eldest son Thomas Herbat Devereux was born 1809/10 in Swansea, his elder sister Hannah was born Camrose 1808/9. The family obviously then moved to Swansea and Thomas lived on Matthew Street (as did many of his family) where he had a butchers shop until he died in 1866, this business was then taken over by his daughter Jane Griffiths(nee Devereux) on his death. He had many children and his youngest child Rachel Devereux born 1832 married David Harris and they also lived on Matthew Street.
This thread has some common dates and names but I would love to find out the names of Thomas Herbat Devereux's mother and also a bit more about Thomas Devereux b. 1786 c.

Thomas H Devereux married Sarah Hull in Brecon in 1837 and they moved to Stockton on Tees at some point in 1841/2. They had a daughter Jane born in Brecon and 2 sons (both of who) died in infancy of whooping cough at Stcokton on Tees, Sarah also died in 1843 S on Tees. T H Devereux married again to Isabell Duncan in 1844 in Stockton. This branch of the family grew and stayed in this area

Any help please would be greqatly appreciated.

Thomas Devereux born Camrose abt 1786 ...............I have not identified the names of his wife(s) - I think he married twice.
A Thomas Devereux mrd Jane Narbett at Camrose in 1805. I can find no reference to a mrge of the widower Thomas Devereux, one presumes he may have re-mrd in Glamorgan.
Camrose was clearly a family seat of the Devereux surname well back during the 18th century.
Have you checked out the wills in my previous posting? There are also a couple of Devereux wills & Bonds from Brecon that may hold info on the NLoW website.

Many thanks, the marriage would fit in with the birth of first 2 children, including Thomas Herbat Devereux. I haven't really used this before so will have another look at your previous posts.

Unexpectedly I was in H’west today so called in at the Rec Off on your behalf. Camrose baptism registers begin in only 1795 and even then upto 1803 only have a few entries for one family, thus it could be said that the baptism register only really begins circa 1805.
For your interest I note ;
Thomas Devereux son of William & Margaret Devereux christened August 9th 1807 and registed August 9th 1807 by Jno Lewett.
John Devereux son of William & Margaret Devereux christened February 19th 1809 registered February 19th 1809 by Jno Lewett.
Rev’d Jno Lewett made the following comment beneath this entry quote The above is a true copy taken from the old register … July 1809. unquote.
So it would appear the old register is now lost and the information shown from 1795 to 1809 is only that which John copied from the old register.
It may well be worth you sending an email to the NLoW to see if the B.T.’s for Camrose Baptism still survive.
John Devereux son of Stephen and Jane Devereux christened ye 5th November 1809 registered ye 5th November 1809 by me Jno Lewett
I had a quick look at the 1841 Census for Camrose and noted residing at Chapel Hill Camrose John & Frances Devereux a Farmer with their children Thomas 15 and Hannah aged 21.
I returned to the Baptism Registers and searched 1816 to 1822 and 1833 to 1838 for the baptism of Hannah and Thomas, alas there are not listed which can only mean they where baptised else where or they where baptised chapel.
I know ages and father of Hannah and Thomas do not fit your requirements but Hannah especially is the only one listed or comes near to your requirements. I also find it interesting that John Devereux mrd Hannah Morris at Camrose in 1806, I wonder why I did not see other children to this couple 1805 to 1812 in Camrose ??
Your answer I feel sure lies in the B.T.’s at NLoW.

To help in researching the Devereux surname further back I had a long look at the Surname Index at the Record Office today and found ;

++ Devereux of Lamphey pedigree HDX/1385
++ Will of Anne Devereux of Meline 1695 FG Vol 16 Page 24
++ Will of John Devereux of Angle 1651 FG Vol 14 PAge 23
++ John Devereux lease of Farm at Camrose 1797
++ Stephen Devereux settlement of 1773 D/PEH/2/478

FG = Francis Green Collection (23 Volumes)

If you wish for a copy of any of the above then just email the Record Office who can send you a copy (cost unknown).
