Roch Pembrokeshire marriage look up
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 21:44 BST (UK) »
My Great Grandfather was a George Deveruax born in Roch Pembrokeshire in approx 1839. I would like to find if there is a parish record of his birth as I cannot find a BMD for it so possibly born before 1837.
I got his marriage cert and it says his father was William Deveraux deceased but we always thought his fathers name was Thomas. So would also like to find  a marriage for a Jane Wade and Thomas or William Deveraux in Roch Pembrokeshire possibly Nov 1829.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Maggie

George and his mother and siblings are in the 1841 census, but his father was deceased by then.

My own research would suggest that

02 Feb 1817 William Devereaux of St Brides mrd Jane Thomas at Talbenny.

10 Nov 1829 Thomas Devereux of Camrose mrd Jane Wade at Roch

A William Devereaux was buried at Camrose in 1830 and a William Devereux at Roch in 1832. I also note the burial of Elizabeth Deverieux at Roch in 1830.

Speculation would suggest Thomas was quite lightly the son of Richard & Mary Devereaux nee’ Lawrence mrd at Camrose 1808 or William & Margaret Devereux nee’ Reynish mrd at Camrose in 1807.

If my pure speculation proves to be the later I strongly recommend you to read the will of William Deveraux of Camrose 1830/016 available for free on the NLoW website.

Just to speculate even further (very dangerous) I wonder if William husband of Margaret is the son of Gabriel & Diana Deveraux mrd at Camrose 1776, if so then the will of Gabriel is also worth a read on the same website dated 1820.

I shall leave to decide what if any connection there is to your own research.

Oh ~ the only George that comes remotely near to your requirements that I can find is George of 1848 born(H'west Reg District, prob Mathry) and baptised at Mathry in 1848, but he is the son of John & Lettice I believe so that counts him out.

At a real stretch I not the baptism of a George Devereux at Camrose in 1814 the son of a William & Margaret Devereux baptised probably 16 Oct 1814.

Mind not for the 1st time my connections could be wrong on all counts, as they say it's for you to decide.

Whilst looking at another project, I noticed the surname Wade in my transcription of the Parish Registers of Pembroke St Michael 1711 ~ 1950, this lead me back to the ECC of St David wills and would recommend you to read the will of John Wade of Roch reference 1828/065

The above lead me to the 1841 census for Roch and I note the birth of John Devereux in county aged 6 months. Since the ’41 was taken on the night of the 07th June 1841 less 6 months we arrive at Dec 1840 – Jan 1841 for the birth of John, since there is only one listed in Free BMD then this birth certificate will show the parents of John and by sibling relationship the parents of George aged 6 in the same 1841 census.

John's elder brother William ~ I can only find one reference to a William Devereux baptized around 1832 that of William bapt 05 Aug 1832 to Margaret Devereux at St Brides.

Since mrge pre Sept 1837 had to take place in established church by law, but baptism was permitted in any denominational location, I am now beginning to think the children are all baptized non-conformist possibly at Penuel or Wesleyan Methodist Chapels Roch.
