Kirkby In Ashfield burial help please
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 11:43 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Just wondering if any body has access to the parish registers of St Wilfred, Kirkby in Ashfield. I am looking for burials for the surname Wilbourne and its variants from the late 1500's to the mid 1700's please. I would be most grateful for any help

Hi Cezza

Kirkby in Ashfield burials for those years hasn't been transcribed yet and not on the Notts FHS CD.

Seing as there is about 150 years to search you could rent the film at your local LDS centre for 3 months and view it at leisure.  Baptisms, marriages and burials are covered from 1600 - 1812 on film number 503502.

Hi- since your last info re Burials at St Wilfreds Church Kirkby in Ashfield, Ashfield District Council ADC, have burial records on a web site, go in through ADC. Also in the local studies section of Kirkby Library, upstairs, some Burial/ headstone records are written.
The site of the church has few older graves to be seen, but around the back of the Church down a fields footpath a graveyard from abt 1900 is hidden in a dip.

Kirkby in Ashfield is an old village, and the earlier parts are Kirkby Cross near St Wilfreds, but when the mines were being sunk around the turn of the century, a drastic change from agriculture to industry happened, and a lot of people moved into the area from other pit communities.
Hope you find what you are searching for.
Sue.
