Plymouth - WEBB
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 17:14 BST (UK) »
Tracing the Webb side of my family. Would very much appreciate assistance going back further than I have been able to do thus far.

William Henry Webb born around 1817 in Plymouth, married in 1840 in Plymouth to Elizabeth Browning. Children: William H. Rablin Webb (1841-1841), Elizabeth J Webb (1843), William Henry Rablin Webb (1845), George Webb (1849).

The 1841 Census shows William and Elizabeth living at Claremont Place, St Andrew, Plymouth with their first son William Henry Rablin Webb who was born and died in 1841. The 1851 Census shows the family living at 25, John Street, Charles The Martyr, Plymouth with members of the Browning family. The 1861 Census shows the family living at 24, Prospect Street, Charles The Martyr, Plymouth and lists William (1817) as being a Solicitors Managing Clerk.

I really need the details of the marriage between William and Elizabeth,  because I suspect that he is also William Henry Rablin Webb. I also need details of his birth / baptism so that I can establish who his parents were.

The name William Henry Rablin Webb continued to be passed down over many generations in my family and I am very curious as to the origin of the Rablin part.

Google "William Henry Rablin Webb" and you will come up with a website entitled "Webb One Name Register".
Would appear that a William Henry Rablin Webb married Mary Jane Coles 1897.
Hope this information is useful.

Priscilla, thanks, probably I should have stated that I know all the more recent direct line :)

William Henry Rablin Webb   (born 1845 in Plymouth) married in 1867 in Plymouth to Elizabeth Bevel. William Henry Rablin Webb (born 1871 in Plymouth) married in 1897 in Plymouth to Mary Jane Coles. William Henry Rablin Webb (born 1898 in Plymouth) married in 1925 to Winifred B. Landricombe, and so on.

woody32, thanks, I would have done this already if I still lived in the UK. It's shocking how expensive it is to order them online. I'm sort of on a mission to do as much as possible for zero monetary cost.

jannergray, thank you, that's the best lead I've had!

This is a vague possibility - my grandfather (the only son of Winifred and William) did have an illegitimate son before he married my grandmother (it would have been towards the end of WWII, and she refused to marry him because she didn't love him) - could this be your father?

Thanks to someone who kindly emailed me, I may have an answer to the entry of Rablin into my family - it seems likely that Elizabeth Browning's mother was an Ann Rablin (married William Browning on 31 August 1805 in St Michael's Church, Bristol) and Elizabeth also had a brother called Henry Rablin Browning (baptised in Ottery St Mary, Devonshire, on 28 May 1809) as well as other siblings - records indicate they had moved to Plymouth by 1815. Elizabeth was baptised at the Batter Street Presbyterian Chapel on 17 November 1816 (her sister Eliza, born 19 November 1813, was baptised in the Batter Street Presbyterian Chapel on 27 February 1815).
