Hi,
My father has a newspaper cutting/article on this. He showed me it at Christmas. Apparently it hit some of the coast in Wales ( can't remember off the top of my head where - Cardiff I'm pretty sure it was  in Wales, can't remember where it hit in England) and thousands of lives was lost in Wales apparently due to this Tsunami. I wished I'd copied it now - the article, a page spread was from a "recentish" newspaper, Times or the Independent - can't remember. I'm in Aus and my father is in Uk and not  very computer literate so I can't get him to scan it and email it to me, pity. It was most interesting

How fascinating!

I've just Googled and found a website devoted to the alleged tsunami at Click Here

I'm going back to read it all!

I haven't read the details yet but the fact that "The programme is scheduled for broadcast at 9pm on BBC2 on Friday 1st April 2005. " makes me wonder? ???

Nigel, you cynic you ; )

My use of the word "alleged" was probably a poor choice of word.  It does seem to be a matter of historical fact that there were enormous floods in the Bristol Channel etc in January 1606/1607 (depending on which calendar of the time one uses - the one where the year started on January 1 or the liturgical year or the civil year which started on 25 March).   Jan 1 didn't become standard until 1752.

Whether the cause of the great floods was a tsunami is something else.  Here's a site where someone calls the theory/hypothesis into question:
http://www.severnsolutions.co.uk/twblog/category/philosophy/
I'm sure there are more.

The BBC surely picked a strange date to show the program!

I don't think it is an April fool at all . The article my father has is from a respected paper ( either the Times or the Independent)  and was written last year, or the year before . A whole spread on it. It was quite a serious article, and very interesting. It was the first I had heard of it too.
Pity I can't watch the TV show about it.
I wish I'd copied the paper, I meant to when I was back home, but forgot about it - probably too many Christmas drinks at the time  ;D

Cell,

If you 'Click Here' on those words in my first post above you can read all about it - including quite a number of media links.  And can read in full the paper published back in 2002 i.e. it's certainly not something stirred up by recent tragic events.

If you click on the website in my second post, it refers quite specifically to the article in The Times.

I'm certainly not doubting you and I thank you very much for responding as you did to Sylviaann's post otherwise I wouldn't have gone looking.  I have found it all extremely interesting and just wish I could watch the program tomorrow!

But the BBC could have chosen a better date!

Best regards,

JAP

Hi again Cell,

Here's the link for the article in The Times.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,18690-1424953,00.html

Yes, I think those of us on free to air TV in Australia will be waiting quite a while to see the program!
