Stretford School for the Deaf

Hi guys, Im just trying to follow up a lead on my great great uncle Frank Morris who im told taught in a famous school for the deaf in stretford - possibly in the 30's and 40's. Does anybody know the name of any such school for the deaf in this area or were i may possibly find any information on past staff members at all?

Hi Luke

I do remember a Deaf School on Talbot Rd., Old Trafford in the 70's and I remember Henshaws although not sure if they were at the same place.

1911 Historical Directory shows the 'Royal Deaf and Dumb Schools' at 39 Talbot Rd., Old Trafford. This would be the opposite side to the Henshaws Migky mentioned.

I think 39 Talbot Rd may have been demolished now-try and check it out next time I pass.

Hey Guys, thanks for all your help with this. I've just discovered that the school was called Henshaws School for the deaf as eric and migky mentioned. Do any of you know if this place still exists or have any info on it at all?

I did mention it but like the rest of the postings i made to this thread have just disappeared?
The blind society is still run by Henshaw at Old Trafford. Google the name and it comes up.
Also some records are at the John Rylands library on Deansgate. Google again for them.

As I remember,in the early 1960's Henshaw's both for the blind and deaf,was a very large victorian building,that was on a block of land between Whitecity dog track and Trafford Bar,Chester Road on one side Talbot Road on the other,I just looked on google earth.Things have changed alot since I moved to Australia,not that it's my doing!!the changes that is.James C.

Hi   My father, John Albert Hanley was headmaster of Henshaws Royal Deaf School in Old Trafford in the early 1930s, until his death in 1936. He was there when Helen Keller visited the school from America
