I took a look through my tree and the only John McCready I have for that time period is in the 1901 census as living in Barrhead. Seems to be a load of McCready's running around Staffordshire at the time.

Likely to be some form of family connection you would think given the family were living in Wolstanton, where your Robert married in 1899. Sad that both Levi and Robert died in the same accident  :-\

I do not think there is any connection but from 1933 Barrhead News, the following death notices:-

"McCready - at 31 Barnes Street, on the 1st November 1933, James McCready (Wee Jim), aged five years four months, beloved youngest son of James and Catherine McCready (sadly missed)."

"McCready - At Royal Sick Children's Hospital on 9th June 1933, William R McCready, twin son of Mr and Mrs McCready, aged five months."

There was an acknowledgement for the above death (re the twin) and the address was given as Graham's Terrace, Gateside.

"McCready - At Fereneze View, Gateside, Barrhead on 18th September 1933, Alexander Peacock McCready, beloved husband of Williamina Mushet, deeply regretted."

Acknowledgement for the above death notice placed by Mrs Williamina McCready and Mr Andrew McCready of Gateside.

Hello Everyone!
This is my first time posting on this site or on this subject so please let me know if I'm going about it the wrong way. I realise this is an old thread and I may not get a reply but fingers crossed!

I recently became interested in my family history when I found a letter belonging to my Grandfather McCready from an unknown relative, giving a breif outline of our family tree.
I decided to do a little 'googleing' to research this and stumbled across this thread, which I believe discusses two other branches of the same McCreadys, decended from James and Stewart McCready of Barrhead.
Before this post I spent a couple of days cross referencing between my info and the info on here, although I havent seen documented evidence as Im new to this and finding it difficult!
I am hoping the best thing to do is put down what I know and what I think I've found, and let other more experienced people have a look :)
Here goes! ( I warn you there are lots of repetitons with names)

James McCready born aprox 1801 m Stewart McCready sires James, b1821? Catherine, Jean and John, b1829?
These a quoted in this thread showing in the 1841 cencus without James snr who I assume dead at this point.
My g,g,g, grandfather is John, (The calico tearer aged 12 in 1841 cencus) John has a unknown wife, and a son James b1850.
Presumabley widowed John then marries Jane Brown Lee Hawthorne in Beith, Scotland in 1860.
They have a son John, b1859, Levi, b1862 William, b1863 and Thomas b1865-d1870.
They then upsticks and leave Scotland along with a few other family members I shall mention later.

I would like to know the reason for this, there is a suggestion they may have 'fled the country'??
They end up in Chesterton Stoke area in around 1866, where the have nine more children,
Janet, b1867, Robert, b1868, Samuel b1869, Kate b1871, my g,g, grandfather Thomas b1873 (second Thomas as the one b1865 died) and his twin sister Agnes, Harriet b1876, Daniel b1877 and James b1879. (The first James from the previous marriege dies in Chesterton the same year)

John Snr b1829 dies and is buried in Chesterton in 1880. His wife Jane is included on the 1901 census, no death record found for her as yet.

Now it gets more complicated! The son James(1821-1879) from the first marriage dies leaving a widow, Esther Hammond who is then married? to his half brother John (b1859)
They have 7 children, James, John Thomas, Levi, Janet, Agnes, Albert and Ethel.
Off these I know Levi m Clara Pennel, I mention this because his Uncle Levi, b1862 also marries a Clara! Her being Clara Dean with which he has 7 children,
Gladys, Janet, William Thomas, Levi, George, Jack and Clara.
The above mentioned Levi b1888? being the one who died in the mining accident at New Hem Heath in 1915 alongside Robert McCready b1876 who was related to him through his grandfather Johns brother James.
In turn Robert was the elder brother of Peter and Dugald McCready who died in the first world war.

This leads on to what I call the Barrhead half of the family, ie James who married Agnes McCauly,
But I think I best save that for another post!
Please give your opinions on this so far, I'd love some input, I have a lot of unanswered questions!
Thnx!
