McCready of Barrhead/Neilston
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 16:40 BST (UK) »
I'm looking to locate the names of the parents of James McCready b. Abt 1800, Probably in the Barrhead/Neilston area as all the subsequent members of the family seemed to be born in the area.
This James McCready married Stewart Scott b.30 March 1806(Greenock). Worryingly, The date I have for the marriage is 30 March 1819????
Any help I can get from you lovely people would be greatly appreciated.

FMJ

EDIT- I didn't know whether I was allowed to post it or not, but i have a copy of the register for the marriage and also for Stewart Scott's birth if that helps anyone?

Thanks for your help Jake. I don't know if there's been a mess up in dates as according to the census, that would mean Stewart was born in 1801 but according to her birth certificate she was born in 1806. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh70/FullMentalJaikie/StewartScottBirthCertificate.jpg

done a general search on SP the Stewart Scott born 1798 in Orkney
is still in Orkney on the 1841 census with second person James (but its not James McCready)
there is only a submitted marriage entry on IGI for that one, to a James Holmes
searched
McReady Stewart female second person James aged 20-40 only one result and it is the one
that DDJJake has found

So if you were to put money on it, would the one with the birth certificate for 1806 be the one i'm looking for, and if so, why would there be such a discrepancy in the two dates?

In these old parish records, it is quite easy for a 0 to be transcribed as a 6, and vice versa!

Anyway going by the 1841 Census age of Stewart as at least 40, she was born between April 1796 and April 1801 ... all ages rounded down to nearer 0 or 5 in Scottish 1841 Census for adults.

FMJ -  it is possible your ancestor was born 1801 and not baptised until 1806 -  reason being I am transcribing the OPRs for the Contin area and seeing this a lot.

One record I have is 6 children all being bapt on the same day -  no children names dates etc -  mjust say 6 children  from ????? baptised this day
Beaton Bethune, Campbell -  ROC
Mitchell Leslie - Aberdeen
Mackintosh, Anderson (Provost) -  Inverness
Boyle, Mckechnie, McPhail, Fulton  - Ireland, Greenock, Kilbrachan
Pearce, Curnoe/Curnow -  Cornwall
Patterson, Robson, Sloan, Campbell, Dixon, Wilson, Ritson, Hedley, Vipond, Coulson -  South Shields, Sunderland, Northumberland, Cumberland
Kitcheham/Kitchingham, Gage -  Kent
