Children of James Wilson and Elizabeth/Betsy Laurie in Sanquhar ~

8 Jan 1809 Isabel
15 April 1810 Elizabeth
19 July 1821 Gavin

William's baptism/birth  is  not on the IGI or SP but the gap between 1810 and 1821 suggests that the records may be  lost, the baptism not recorded or some other reason.

Just seen your info on Gavin - that doesn't fit with the 1851 info does it - maybe whoever entered the burial details got the Janes mixed up.

Death cert also has the mother as Jane Rae. Informant was son James - who was also the informant on his father's cert.

Added - the 1851 was surely  Jane Hyslop and not Jane Rae as far as I can see - age, place of birth, etc.

An outside possible for Elizabeth/Betsy Laurie, mother of William Wilson ~

Sanquhar 9 Sept 1792 Elizabeth d/o Thomas Laurie and Katharine Gibson

I'm loath to go looking for a James Wilson (his father) as I've got one of those in either Dumfries or Kirkcudbright that I still can't identify after many many years - the same generation as well   :-\

Wilsons  in those counties are like my Joneses in North Wales!

Hi I am new to this I am also looking at information on William Wilson father of Tom Wilson in Sanquhar.
William Wilson he had was a bookseller and stationer he wrote the book  The Visitors Guide to Sanquhar & Neighbourhood with a list of the people in business in Sanquhar,Wanlockhead and Kirkconnel. Tom Wilson his son wrote Burns and Black Joan as well as Memorials of Sanquhar Kirkyard which lists a plan for that and the names of those buried and what they did for a living.
William Wilson was born April 4th 1886. His parents were Robert Wilson  Blacksmith(Journeyman) and Jane Wilson (M S Cunningham).I think this could be her maiden name  Not sure if this of any help
