Can't see a good match at the moment.

However, because they lived beyond 1861, they should show in the deaths on SP. The certs would give their parents' names which would get you back another generation at least.

Research has been done on this family on the Lanarkshire page aready, I did look-ups on the Cambusnethan Burial Records (I think) for someone.
There is a gravestone in the old churchyard at Cambusnethan with the following inscription -
"Erected by William Wilson in memory of his wife Jane Hyslop who died 5th August 18(?)5 aged 37 years.  (some unreadable) ...... Son Gavin died 11th November 1863 aged 13 years."

Some burial records for this plot -
Owner registered (In Victorian times) as William Wilson.
Buried in the Centre lair -
JANE WILSON aged 74 years, 22nd April 1887.
Buried in the North lair -
ANNIE THOMSON, aged 59 years, 11th February 1908.

Also some records from the Day Book of internments -

WILLIAM WILSON, miner, Cambusnethan, aged 30 years, married.
Parents - William Wilson and Jane Hyslop.
Interred in the old churchyard, 7th March 1877.

ANN THOMSON, housewife, Newmains, aged 59 years, married.
Interred in the old churchyard, 11th February 1908.

Hi Lodger

Yes, i've seen that but there is no info on parents of Jane and William senior (both b. circa 1815)  and we need those to go further back. There appear to be two Janes unless the Mi is wrong!

Back to trying to locate the Janes' births or parents ~

It also  states Kirkpatrick Durham as Jane's birthplace  on the 1871 and 1881. Also, not sure of the  William  Mcdougall described as 'son'. It might well be your William (b. 1847) but the age is slightly out  ~

1871

Wilson
William, 55, newsagent (?), b. Sanquhar
Jane, 56, b. Kirkpatrick Durham, Kirkcudbrightshire
William Mcdougall, 27, Commercial Traveller, b.Kirkpatrick Durham

Wilson
William, 65, newsagent, b. Sanquhar
Jane,68, b. Kirkpatrick Durham

Ha! Gadget, you just beat me to it!

I was thinking that he married twice and that Jane Hyslop must have died in 1855 (which was a great year to die!) because she is on the inscription before Gavin, who died in 1863.

I'm having a look for her death in 1855 now - I can't see any likely H*slops on the 1841 in Sanquhar. Thought that I'd check them out first.

Lodger ~

Are you sure that it's 1855 and not 1853?  I don't see a death record for her using all sorts of wildcards or soundex and Jane/Jean, etc.

She was down as 35 in 1851 so she would have been 37 in 1853.

Must be 53 if she's not in the 1855 index, pity about that.

I had a look in the C/nethan burials for any children of William and Jane Rae. I found the entry for Gavin, it makes interesting reading!

GAVIN WILSON, pit clerk, Newmains, aged 13 years, single.
Parents - William Wilson and Jane Rae.
Interred in the old churchyard, 13th November 1863.
