Heinrich Bongartz
« on: Friday 02 July 10 18:51 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me please if they can find out when a Henry or Heinrich Bongartz either died or left england between 1901 -1911. Because the Bongartz family came to england in 1890 believe from crefeld germany (believe thats where my grandfather Heinrich's son was born) still trying obtain the birth certificate of my grandfather Carl Henry Bongartz (german spelling Karl H Bongartz). In the 1901 cencurs they were in england liveing churston street, there was a Henry (Heinrich), Johanna wife, Karl son and daughter Christine, Carl was married in 1910 and liveing at Hampstead in 1911 was only Johanna and daughter christine no Henry (Heinrich) so am trying to find out if he died or left england.
I purchased my grandfathers alien file which was released from the home office to the national archives in march and i got it in may, and there was a mentioning of a grandma that came with them can anyone tell me if they can find out what happened to her, there is no mention of her name. There is some believe that Johanna Marie might have come from prussia. Would be most grateful if anyone can help me, with this problem maybe if there were any electrol roles back then. Also looking for a thomas sinclair who was staying with a grace eva bongartz who was married to carl henry bongartz at 11 kew meadows path mortlake, from about 1918 boarding till 1925. Can anyone also tell me if this is so, as i do know that he was there from about 1920 -1925. till the family kicked him out ,
                              Most gratefull for any help

What does the 1911 census show as Johanna's marital status - widow or married?

Without a name that would be impossible

Hi

I see in the 1901 census  RG13/93/105/41 where they are transcribed as Bonkartz they are all born in Germany and Henry is a hairdresser.

In the following census Johanna's pob is Switzerland but her daughter Germany. No sign of Henry either in the census or a death. Perhaps he had gone back to Germany for a visit?

How do you know they arrived in England in 1890? If you have found them on a passenger list, it should also show whether there were any more of the family with them. If a grandmother did arrive with them, she wasn't living with them in 1901. Have you found them in 1891?

Jan

Dear Jan,
I purchased Heinrich's son's alien file from the national archives after the home office released it to them in march this year. In the file it states that they came to england in 1890 with his father, mother, grandmother and sister. And he believes he was born in crefeld germany. It states on the 1901 cencurs that where it says where born its got Luebeck germany, have checked with Luebeck and there is no Bonkartz . In 1910 they must have changed the way they spelt their surname cos on my grandparents marriage cert and my grandmothers death cert its got the spelling the english way Bongartz. And on the 1901 cencurs its got johannas marital status as married as Heinrich or henry was with them at the time. Still trying to purchase and find out if he is registered under bongartz or bonkartz in germany. to get birth cert.

Hi Julie,
Yes your grandfather was Carl Henry Bongartz, but Heinrich was his father and his sister was Christine his mother was Johanna but do not know what happened to his father Heinrich, he was not with them in 1911 when Johanna and Christine was at hampstead and the census states that Johanna was head of the family. But in 1910 of february Grace who is my grandmother got married, and they had a son Carl Henry Bongartz in the August and he changed his name later on to Charles Henry Weedon he took his mothers maiden name because it was not a done thing back in those days to have a german name. If you want to have a chat my numberDELETEDor i can call you. I have such alot to tell you. And your grandmother is Violet May Jay when single and they married  5 months after my grandmother died of cancer of the cervix. Look forward to chatting with you. Have been talking to suzzane and Geoff.
Take care Alison
