Winifred Annie COOPER - Completed
« on: Friday 02 July 10 05:23 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I'm searching for Winifred Annie Cooper. I have her baptism record, and she was baptised 3 Nov 1901 in St Luke, Bermondsey, Southwark, Middlesex.

Her father was James Henry Cooper (born cir 1867, Bermondsey) and her mother was Maud Mary Fowler, born cir 1866, Greenwich, Kent, England.

Is there anything else I might be able to find out about Winifred? I found her on the 1911 census, but she was only a student then. I know she had a sister, Katherine Maud Cooper, and a brother, James Thomas Cooper.

Is she too 'recent' to find out more about her - such as who she married? I don't know too much about England research (I'm Australian).

I'd appreciate any help,

Thanks kindly,
Lauren

Hello Lauren

I will have a look and see what we can find

Bermondsey, Southwark, London prior to becoming "London" would have been London, Surrey and not London, Middlesex

You haven't said when Winifred (baptised 1901) or the siblings were born, I can see the parents marriage

1891
114 Southwark Park Road, Bermondsey (still there today)
James H Cooper.......head....24....cardboard box cutter....Bermondsey, London
Maud M......."............wife......22...cardboard maker...........Greenwich, Kent

Hi Bryant,

I wondered about the Surrey and Middlesex thing - I was confused by that, so thanks for clarifying. Maybe I should move this to the Surrey board then?

I don't know the exact birthdates for Winifred or siblings, only approximate birth years gathered from census records. Winifred cir 1901, Katherine Maud cir 1898 and James Thomas cir 1891. I know James Thomas died in 1915 during WW1.

The marriage date I have for James Henry Cooper and Maud Mary Fowler is 25 Dec 1889 in Newington, Surrey, England, so that would match with what you've found.

Thanks,

Lauren

Thank you for all of that, Bryant. It's good to have the birth quarters for the siblings. My dad (who is sitting next to me at the moment) was born in Carshalton, so it makes sense for them to have moved there. Katherine Maud Cooper was dad's grandmother. I know the children she had, but I had hoped Winifred might've had some children too. I'm hoping the death you found isn't her, but the chances seem to go in that favour.

Hello Lauren

Winifred must have been born within a few weeks of her baptism.....

The age of the Winifred that died was 17 which would be correct...I wonder what she died of?

The family must have stayed in the Epsom R.D area as that is where Maud M Cooper died in the Dec qtr of 1926 (aged 58).

and

James H Cooper died in the Mar qtr of 1929 Epsom R.D (aged 62)

Hi Bryant,

I wonder what she died of too. I might have to order some certificates one of these days. Thanks very much for your research help.

Hi Lauren,

I came across your post about the Cooper's by chance - I am researching the men from Carshalton who were killed in WW1 and are commemorated on the memorial here (see my website www.carshaltonwarmemorial.webs.com). I was just wondering if you had any further information about James Thomas Cooper or perhaps even a picture? If you are interested I am happy to share the information I have gathered about him.

Many thanks.

Kind Regards,
ASA1
