Hi Valda and Lisa B,
I've gone through my old notes ( I was doing all this before the internet family history stuff got off the ground!) and we're talking of different Williams - I did indeed have the death date of William Sugden Sen. who maried Sarah in Leeds. But the William, who was in fact my great-grandfather , was born in 1825 in Dorking to William and Sarah Sugden, living at West Street, Dorking. I have a copy of the baptism record. Incidentally, brother John Sugden and wife Martha, also have a son Frederick on the same page, and they are living either in the same house or the same street, West Street!
William Sugden ( my gt.g/father) turns up in Chapel Street London ( near Rodney Street) on the 1861 census with wife Harriet ( nee Fulcher) with 2 very young children, Elena and Frank, but not yet Arthur, my grandfather, who came along in 1865. By this time, they are living in Charterhouse Street, London.
When Arthur gets married in 1887, the marriage cert has the father, William Sugden, as deceased, and it is THIS William of whom I can find no further trace, as I can't find him on the 1881 census, nor can I find a record of his death.
Sorry I led you to the wrong William, but if you can help on the right one, I'd be very grateful!!
Cheers
Phil S.
It's this William for whom I can find no record of death
