Glaslyn foundry, Porthmadog
« on: Friday 02 July 10 00:15 BST (UK) »
Hi all
i am looking for information on The Glaslyn iron foundry that was in Porthmadog, it was one of three from abt 1848 onwards (i do think it is closed and not there now)

I am particularly interested in the Charles Williams, Charles Henry Williams and Goronwy Wyn Williams that ran/ owned the foundry.

Any information would be good as trying to compile a personnal family journal on the family history for my mother in law!

thanks gemma

Historical directories

I can find a reference to the Britannia Foundry, Portmadoc and John Henry Williams in 1859. After this it becomes John Henry Williams and Sons but can't find a specific reference th the names you quote.

Is John Henry related to those you mention? If so, Slater's Directory of 1859 has a great advert about his services and products.

regards

Hi
The Glaslyn and Britannia Foundries were two different foundries.
See reply under topic 'Goronwy Wyn Williams 1912-1981'

Hello,

I know this is a bit late, but I do have some info on the Glaslyn Iron and Brass Foundry, In fact I own the old Main engine that worked there from the early 1920's up and until the foundry closed.

I would also like any info or photo's of this foundry for information in the museum that will house the almost unique engine that once sounded out ( for miles) across porthmadoc.

Please get in touch.

Best regards

Steve
