I do think that Robert, son of Robert and Margaret (Gold) is likely your man. Especially with what you say as to the use of the middle name Gold for the children of Robert and Jessie. Always helpful with the Scots that they like to use paternal/maternal grandparents names and also use in particular mother's maiden name as a middle name!
The main reason I asked about the 1911 marriage entry was to double check on father's occupation which could then help the census entries etc.
