looking for birth mother
« on: Wednesday 30 June 10 20:27 BST (UK) »
i am looking for my birth mother but as she is alive i cannot post her name as it will be breaking the terms and conditions of this site BUT i would like to ask how i could track her down.

i have been through counseling and have my adoption folder, i was born in 1990 at st Marys hospital Manchester and adopted in 1993 also in Manchester.

i have tried ancerty.com and Ive tried going through the council but they don't offer much help, if anyone could help me  or has any advice please let me know.

 :) thankyou in advance x

I can't really offer any advice but wanted to wish you the best of luck x  ;D

Have you looked on free bmd on ancestry to see if she married? I suppose the phone books, or electoral rolls might be able to help, if she had an unusual maiden name you might be able to search for siblings using ancestry etc

Hi Charley Burn,
In the adoption papers does it give the address that she was either living or staying at at the time that your adoption took place. In which case as Rah said maybe the electoral roll or the council tax, kelly's directories might be of help.  If you have this information then you may be able to check and see if she was there some time afterward upto 5yrs.  Using this info you could check to see if she married whilst still living there.  kellys is the directory that the waterboard uses for the landlords and their tennants.

Best wishes in your search. I finally got a picture of my mother when I was 60. Be expectant that anyone you trace may not be best pleased to establish contact.
After establishing whether your mother got remarried or changed her name try using 192.com to trace her. You may have to pay a fee. If you do find a possible contact don't go at it like a bull at a gate. Think about how you will establish physical/ telephone contact. I actually confirmed my mother by finding that she had several children after me , and one was on facebook and was a clone. Everybody who saw the photo of my step brother was convinced that they were looking at me. Both parent were dead by the time I traced them but they had left loads of DNA around. I've now found 9 half brothers/sisters of which only 2 wish to keep in contact. Expect the worst and enjoy the best.
Also I found that my father had been a serial bigamist . The grandmother had been a servant at a large house and had run off with the coach driver. Are you able to acccept that any news that you get will not affect you. Personally , I was amused by all the history that I discovered.
