Canal Boatmen, captain Thomas Jones
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 15:33 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I am a newbie on here and I have come across my Great Grandfather and his family in the 1901 census, he is listed as a captain of a barge, Thomas Jones born 1850 in Tipton Staffs, wife Elizabeth born 1861 in Derby, daughter Sarah Ann aged 16,  son Thomas aged 14, daughter Hannah aged 10, and son Henry (my grandfather) aged 7, they are shown as being moored in Warwick on a wharf named either Emseale or Emscale....By the 1911 census Thomas had passed away and the family were living in Rochdale lancs....Does anyone here have any research to do with Boatmen of that area and era?....Also would it be possible to find out the name of the boat he was captain of?...any pointers would be of great help, thanks in advance....paul
