William Frederick Rudman - National Archives of South Africa (NASA)
« on: Monday 28 June 10 21:58 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was looking up my great grandfather, William Frederick Rudman who served in the South African Constabulary at the NAAIRS site.  I found the following entry for him:

DEPOT     TAB
SOURCE    SAC
TYPE      LEER
VOLUME_NO 202
SYSTEM    01
REFERENCE H1876
PART      1
DESCRIPTION          RECORD OF CONDUCT AND SERVICE OF. FREDERICK WILLIAM RUDMAN.
           DISCHARGED FREE.
STARTING  19010518
ENDING    19060630

Can anyone tell me how I would get hold of a copy of his record?  I'm in England.

Failing a willing volunteer (which would be quite a lot to expect), unless you have a family member or friend with a digital camera, living in the vicinity of the National Archives Pretoria SA, who could access the file for you, your only recourse would be to contact a professional researcher - lists of such researchers in the various SA provinces appear at foot of the main page menu at www.national.archives.gov.za/

May I say that accessing this Record of Conduct and Service would be well worth your while - and any costs incurred. The contents will be extremely informative.

Hi Leofwine
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have been trying to reach you through Ancestry without success
I have a photograph of your ggrandmother Emmie Shilston, taken in 1900. If you would like to have it, please mail me at (*)

To obtain pictures of documents held in the National Archives. Go to http://www.eggsa.org and select Content --> On Line Shop --> order Archive documents.  Once you have selected the currency, select "Enter the Shop" and then select "Archive photos" (in yellow on the blue band) and follow the instructions. They are only able to organise the photographing of documents from the South African Archives at Pretoria (TAB), Bloemfontein (VAB), Pietermaritzburg (NAB) and Durban(TBD). Other archives such as KAB require a researcher to transcribe documents by hand as no copying by camera or photocopying is allowed. Rates are cheap especially if ordering from overseas.
Hope this helps regards Derek.
