Sorry, still haven't worked out where to post what!
Am looking for any info on this person, born Birmingham, Warwickshire, England - as to who his ancestors were (I have his wife already).

You can search for a birth registration on FreeBMD (it is there):
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

This birth is at the period where the index shows the mother's maiden name, so from there you can search for a marriage with the same surnames and for siblings (same combination of mother's maiden name and surname). That will take you a generation back. If you have access to the census you can look for his parents & so on.

There isn't a problem with Free B.M D. website I just clicked on it and the search page came up as usual.Did you fill the the search page with the correct name and date
& place of birth?

I got no results like you on my first search,I put in his full name added the birth between  Dec 1926 & December 1927 And born county and got nothing I think that was because there wasn't a Philip Anthony Horton.Only an initial so I deleted his first Names and left the rest as was .Sometimes if we are to precise it wont come up with anything so I just put surnames in.

a daughter b 1918 dec qtr in Gravesend
twin sons b 1924   Birmingham
a son b 1926 .....Birmingham
Phillip the baby b 1927.....Birmingham
