You are correct William Wilkens did marry twice Sarah Maria Best whom died on the 28th June 1842 and was burried at Land's End by her first son Frederick. She lost Two  of her children before the age of 3

Good afternoon - does anyone have any information about the existance of a special piece of jewellery - namely a ring - for naval personnel.  Searching amongst "Lost and Found" in Trove and interested as our surname was mentioned and I did not realise that any of our people were in the Navy.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I'm an Ebbett who's ancestor's sailed and settled in New Zealand. My great grandfather was Frederick who fought in WWI in the Navy and his son Henry who was in the Navy in WWII. See http://muse.aucklandmuseum.com/databases/Cenotaph/90635.detail

Good evening, thank you for your reply to my Ebbett enquiry.  I have had a look in my tree - I believe your Great Great Grandfather was Charles Henry Ebbett 1855-1931, one of his many brothers was Thomas Frederick Harris Ebbett 1858-1949 - he was my husband's Great Grandfather.  We knew that many of our Ebbett ancestors emigrated to New Zealand and that some of them kept in touch with my husband's family.  We have a photograph which was found amongst my mother-in-laws posessions after her death and I have been trying to identify the subject, thinking that it could have been sent to her by her New Zealand relatives.  The only identification we have is that written on the back is E Ebbett.  Do you know any family who might have kept in touch with Australian relatives?  The lady in our picture looks to be maybe in her sixties and I think the picture would have been taken fairly early 1900's.  I have not tried to send attachments through a chat page, but can send via e-mail if you think you might be able to help.  Thanks again for your contact and look forward to hearing from you.  Cheers.

Sorry I got it wrong. I never knew my Grandfather and he was Fredrick Irving Ebbett and his dad was Harry. But yes, Fred was in the Navy in WWII. My apologies.

Hi

WW2  Naval records (NZ)

https://www.archives.govt.nz/research-guidance/research-guides/war-records/world-war-two

Suggest you try Archives New Zealand firstly - see first paragraph at above link - they hold some RNZN records.

Use their "Ask an Archivist" facility
   https://www.archives.govt.nz/about-us/services-we-offer/ask-an-archivist

They may be able to guide you to where to look next, if they don't have the information you are seeking.

This will probably be of use to you if you are seeking a service record for WW2.

Clareville Cemetery - Wairarapa

Plot 74    /    1939-1945 War

4373  LDG  TEL  /   F. I.  EBBETT     /   RNZN    --    died 10/12/1969

[ This was wrongly entered on the Cemetery index I used as a resource, as  >  F. L.  Ebbett but the actual entry records "F. I. EBBETT".   Found a Probate record which confirmed  correct person ... and his Will expressed a desire to be buried with the RNZN insignia on his headstone.  ]
