Hi RaeDavis

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

I see from the NZ BDM that he died in 1979
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/

Do you know where he died and was buried?  Aside from purchasing the Death record - If you can find out the name of the Funeral Director, you could give them a call and ask what information they have on their records for him - often this will name parents etc. Cemetery Records will often give up the name of the Funeral Director, or a Newspaper Funeral/Death notice.

Did he marry in NZ?

Scotlands People:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search/birth/index.aspx
Index 3 x Alexander RAE birth in Midlothian 1909 - none are in the District of Edinburgh - however, Edinburgh has a number of sub-districts which he could be registered in.

Cheers

What can I say, thank you for a start as before I came across this site yesterday I had not gotten anywhere with him and given up. Thanks for such proffessional advice! I know he died in Auckland and couldnt say where buried, maybe cremaed. He lived here most of adult life but had emigrated with family in 1950s I believe. He had some contact with his mother but father died when three i believe.... Anyway thanks and this info will be very helpful I am sure, thanks again, Jacqui

Hi Jacqui

He is  recorded in the Indexes of Purewa Cemetery & Crematorium  in Auckland
http://www.purewa.co.nz/search.asp

Alexander  RAE age 70, died  1 Jun 1979
Date of Service and/or Interment 4 Jun 1979

The Funeral Director is still in business:
http://nz.vicdir.com/sn92242-0-c-little-sons-ltd.htm

I googled up an old topic of yours on another forum
http://genforum.com/rae/messages/639.html

His 2nd wife whom you mentioned  is also recorded in Purewa - she died recentley,  in 2002.

His 1st wife,  he married in Orsett, Essex in 1936  - this marriage would hopefully record his father's name.
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Marriage: Orsett Essex - Dec Qtr 1936 - 4a - page 1415
******   to Alexander RAE

(I haven't put her name, because her son at least  is probably still living)

In saying there are only 3 births in Midlothian - there is  also is a possibility he was registered born as McRAE, or even REA, REAY, etc.

Cheers  ;D
